The Catholic Conference of Illinois this week joined a friend-of-the-court brief supporting a six-year-old lawsuit filed against the state by two Illinois pharmacy owners seeking conscience protection against dispensing emergency contraception. Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in 2005 filed an emergency rule that later became permanent that requires pharmacies in the state to dispense emergency contraception, commonly known as the morning-after pill. Too many misconceptions are floating around about the Ultrasound Opportunity Act, House Bill 4085 sponsored by Rep. Joe Lyons, D-Chicago. Stay informed on this important issue. Pope Benedict XVI today named a successor to retiring Bishop Thomas Doran of Rockford. Msgr. David Malloy, 56, former general secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), will succeed Bishop Doran. Msgr.
