While most of us are preparing to honor those who have served and died for our nation this Memorial Day weekend, the Illinois General Assembly just filed a new bill, SB 1950 (House Amendment #2), to legalize assisted suicide in Illinois.
Make no mistake about it – they are going to try to jam it through during the upcoming last five days of this legislative session when lawmakers reconvene Tuesday. Does this sound familiar?
Please ACT NOW! We are writing to ask you to call or write your Illinois State Representative to ask them to vote “NO” on SB 1950, House Amendment #2. Even if you have done this before, please do it again any time you can. Now is the time! Click HERE to contact your Illinois State lawmakers.
Laws permitting assisted suicide pose significant risks to the poor, marginalized, and disabled who may face pressure to end their lives rather than receive the care and compassion they need and deserve.
Illinois does not need to legalize assisted suicide. What we truly need is increased access to quality health care, enhanced palliative care options, and loving and compassionate support services for those at the end of their lives.
